Rehabilitation Works for Telavi Gorge and Usakhelo Gorge Ongoing in Full Scale

January 26, 2017

Rehabilitation works for Telavi and Usakhelo Gorges are ongoing concurrently. Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia Zurab Alavidze, Executive Director of the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia Galaktion Buadze, Authorized Representative of the State in Kakheti Region Irakli Kadagishvili and Deputy Director of the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia – David Tabidze were visiting the project site for inspection of ongoing works.

The 1.5 long Telavi gorge requires cleaning and reinforcement of walls and bottom.  Current state of Usakhelo gorge poses threat to the population and adjacent buildings.   The named gorge is filled up with waste and earth, which exposes the houses to risk of flooding.

As a result of rehabilitation works, throughput of both gorges will increase and therefore danger of inundation of houses will be eliminated both in Town Telavi and village Kurdghelauri.

Rehabilitation of gorges is backed by the European Investment Bank and total cost of projects exceeds GEL   3  mln. There are 45 persons employed at the project sites. Works are expected to complete by the end of 2017.
