Rehabilitation of Zugdidi Botanical Garden Launched
Zurab Alavidze, Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia together with local authorities has attended Zugdidi Botanical Garden rehabilitation project launching event. World Bank funded rehabilitation works at the cost of GEL 12 million will be implemented by the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia.
According to Zurab Alavidze, the local population and society at large have been eagerly awaiting this moment for decades. He made the following statement ,,I am delighted from the fact that today a considerable step was made to this effect. Zugdidi will have an upgraded Botanical Garden with modern infrastructure’’.
The Minister also emphasized that implementation of the named project is of great worth in terms of uncovering touristic potential of the region, which will have positive impact on enhancement of social status of local population and provision of additional momentum for attracting investments to this region.
Zurab Alavidze expressed gratitude to all those employees who have preserved rare species kept in the Botanical Garden. ,,I would like to wish success to people contributing to effective accomplishment of this project, which is of utmost importance for our country’’.
The project envisages rehabilitation of the buildings existing in the Botanical Garden area and installation of water supply system, provision of water supply to the artificial pond and arrangement of headworks. Footpaths and public toilets will be arranged as well. Guard house and booking office will be arranged at the entrance.
Rehabilitation works will be completed in June, 2019.
