Maia Tskitishvili – Contractor Company to be required to respond
The Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia (MRDI) Maia Tskitishvili and Chairman of Adjara Government Zurab Pataradze together with Kobuleti Mayor and Municipality representatives familiarized themselves with the current situation of the coastline prior to tourist season commencement.
Last year in autumn, the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia (MDF) started rehabilitation of the coast-protecting wall on Kobuleti coast with the financial support of the World Bank (WB). The project had had to be finalized until sea season of this year; however, the Contractor Company stopped the works, followed by objection of local population.
The Minister provided the local residents, representatives of Adjara Government and self-governmental entities with the information on arrangements aimed at resolving the current issues.
As per the Minister, the Contractor Company shall be required to respond to the failure of performance.
“Unfortunately the situation is really deplorable. We have made the decision the state construction company to be involved in the works process, which is to commence the works from May 1st. That will enable the considerable part of the project to be completed until commencement of the summer season and the current situation to be improved dramatically” – Maia Tskitishvili stated.
Up to 2 millions of tourists were on holidays on the Black Sea coast in Adjara last year. Maia Tskitishvili and Zurab Pataradze declared that it was of special significance the annually increasing number of holidaymakers to be facing the comfortable environment.
Upon completion of the coast protection works in Kobuleti, there is to be arranged the new boulevard there, parameters of the coastline of the resort will be increased and impact of the waves in case of storm will be decreased that will enable the tourists and local residents to benefit from the protected and regulated coastline.
Zurab Pataridze thanked Minister for being interested in the issue. According to the Chairman of Adjara Government, those problematic sections, total rehabilitation of which will not be possible to be completed until summer season of the current year, will be lined temporarily and cleaned off, whilst the finalization works for the project will be resumed as soon as the season is finished.
