August 31, 2018
Roshka-Arkhoti motor road undergoes rehabilitation by the Municipal Development Fund (MDF) of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia (MRDI). The 28-km road has been completely passed through within the project that enables movement of cross-country vehicles.
Executive Director of MDF Giorgi Shengelia along with the Roads Department and Design Company representatives, visited the site to inspect the works of the road construction. At the site they reviewed the complications identified in the process of construction.
The construction site starts at Roshka Village of Dusheti Municipality, then it goes through Arkhoti pass and ends up in Amgha Village, but before it passes through Asa River gorge. At this section there existed the pedestrian path only, whilst within the project there has been arranged the soil motor road of 6 m width and 28 km length. There is scheduled the bank protection structures and bridges to be arranged too.
The winter in the vicinity of the pass that is located at the altitude of 3000 m, is severe and of long duration, resulting in complications of the work process.
Due to lack of the road, the borderline Village Arkhoti has been almost left by population and there reside 4 households only as of to date. Besides the strategic meaning, the project is of high significance for economic development of the region. This road will encourage the locals to be returned to the site and tourist potential of Khevsureti to be increased
