Construction of Archeological Museum Ongoing in Mtskheta

The Municipal Development Fund of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia is implementing the project for construction of the new up-to-date archeological museum on the basis of the old movie theater building located in Mtskheta. The project is backed by the World Bank and its cost exceeds GEL 9 million. Giorgi Shengelia, Executive Director of the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia was visiting the ongoing project site together with Shalva Kereselidze, Mtskheta-Mtianeti Governor.
The reconstructed old building will accommodate exhibition and conference spaces, museum depositories, and cafeteria.
Under the project, conservation works will be carried out for the “Mtskhetis Karibche” – archeological monument integrated within the existing building space. The museum area adjoining public space will get improved and equipped with outdoor lighting, parking lot and other infrastructural facilities.
The project was developed in accordance with methodological instructions of UNESCO World Heritage Center and with observance of all modern standards of museography.
