Trip from Tbilisi to Rustavi will take 15 minutes
After construction of the new highway, travel time from Rustavi to Tbilisi will take 15 minutes – stated the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia Davit Narmania at the today’s press conference.
The press conference was also attended by the First Executive Director of the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia, Temur Murgulia, Ambassador of China, Wang Kaiwen, Consul of China and representatives of the contractor company.
The civil works contract for the first and third sections of the motor road is already signed between the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia and the winner company SINOHYDRO CORPORATION LIMITED.
„The project will be launched on April 20. Duration of the contract is 17 months. At the present stage first and third sections will be rehabilitated. In the process of project implementation, the road will not be blocked on the first section, while the works on the third section will require blocking one lane of traffic, and we would like to excuse ourselves in advance for this inconvenience.” – stated First Executive Director of the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia, Temur Murgulia.
Cost of the first and third sections is GEL 88,761,128.95. In a month SINOHYDRO CORPORATION LIMITED will start works on the above-mentioned sections and complete the project in 17 months. It is notable that 100% of unskilled labor employed for works will be from local population. The Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia has declared that materials applied for construction works will be of local origin, except for those ones, which cannot be manufactured in Georgia.
As for the second section, its detailed design is completed and submitted to the ADB. Tender for this section will be announced separately.
The Tbilisi-Rustavi road construction project is funded by the ADB and the Government of Georgia and provides for modernization of the Tbilisi-Rustavi section of “Tbilisi-Red Bridge” (Azerbaijan border) motor road of international importance.
Estimated length of the design road is 17.4 kilometers. Considering complexity of the road alignment, the design road and respective design activities are divided into three following different sequences:
First section – from the intercity bus terminal to the restaurant Marabda – 4km long. Cross section of the road is a 6 lane one, with the 3.50m width for each lane. The central barrier is 6m wide. 2.5-3.0m width sidewalks for pedestrians will be arranged on both sides. Pavement is of asphalt concrete. The new road infrastructure includes one interchange, one traffic centre and two bridges;
Second section – densely populated Ponichala area – with estimated length of 6.8 kilometers. At this section, construction of completely new, approximately 2km long urban type entrance road is planned along the river Mtkvari. Cross section of the road is a 4 lane one, with the 3.75m width for each lane. Pavement is of asphalt concrete. The new road infrastructure of this section includes: traffic centers, two underground passages, four highway bridges and four pedestrian bridges;
Third section – from the “Socar” fuel station located at the Ponichala Settlement exit to the Rutsavi Motor Vehicle Fair - 6,6 kilometer long. Cross section of the road is a 4 lane one, with the 3.75m width for each lane. The central barrier is 6m wide. Sidewalks are not envisaged. Pavement is of cement-concrete. The new road infrastructure of this section includes: one interchange, one traffic center and two bridges.
