The tender for construction on the new station of Tbilisi Metro will be announced in the nearest days. It is the project, terminated during 20 years, which will be resumed very soon and implementation of which will play important role in development of the capital of Georgia. Georgian Municipal Development Fund has already completed trilateral negotiations related to the construction project with Tbilisi Metro and Spanish company “Eurostudio”. Construction of the new station of Tbilisi Metro is funded by Asian Development Bank.
Completion of construction of the second line of Tbilisi Metro will provide Tbilisi residents with the opportunity of fast and safe movement. New metro station will lessen the load of aboveground transport flows and will significantly facilitate further development of urban transport.
Tunnel rehabilitation with total length of 2.6 km will be performed in the framework of the project. Underground and aboveground structures of the station, exits at Vazha Pshavela Avenue and Sandro Euli Street will be arranged under the project. Rail-tracks, power station, escalators, ventilation and drainage systems, as well as alarm management and fire prevention systems and escape routes will be arranged. Construction period covers 24 months, as a result of which new metro of modern standards will serve to the population of the capital.
Extension of the second line of Tbilisi Metro from Delisi station towards the University was started in 1985 and terminated in 1993. Construction was resumed in 1998 and in 2000 Vazha Pshavela station was opened, where, out of the two parallel tunnels between Delisi and Vazha Pshavela, only one tunnel operates, and the other line does not exist yet. The tunnels between VazhaPshavela and University stations are excavated, but the works are not completed till now.
As a result of construction, the second tunnel between Delisi and Vazha Pshavela stations will be put into operation and new, 23rd station will add to the 22 metro stations, existing in the capital. The project of the metro station was developed by Spanish consulting firm “Eurostudio”. The project has undergone expertise envisaged by Georgian legislation. In addition to Georgian expertise, the project was also assessed by independent Italian expert. The project details are agreed with Tbilisi Transport Company as well.
Let me remind you that Tbilisi Metro was opened in 1966. Presently it consists of two lines with total length of 27 km. Now 22 metro stations operate in the capital and new metro station of modern standards will add to the capital in 2016.
