The Municipal Development Fund of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia has completed construction of an international standard Ice Arena in Tbilisi. In February, the Tbilisi Ice Arena is to host The 2025 European Winter Youth Olympics.
The top-level building of the Tbilisi Ice Arena is featuring a 60-meter-by-30-meter ice rink, with stands for up to 700 spectators, training, choreographic, recreational, medical, make-up and conference halls, dressing rooms and bathrooms. There is also space for a cafe with a panoramic view of the arena and a parking lot.
A cooling system installed in the building, in accordance with international standards provides different temperature modes and, along with ice surface cooling, regulates both the humidity level and the heating of the spectator area. Two scoreboards and a lighting system were installed on the rink. The building is fully adapted for people with disabilities.
The ice arena is to serve hockey, figure skating, and curling disciplines.
The sports complex is equipped with two units of ice rink maintenance and polishing machines. With a specialized insulated floor covering, the rink will be able to serve summer sports and other events (basketball, futsal, handball, etc.) without melting ice.
The ice arena was equipped by applying the latest technologies meeting international standards, which were installed by a Czech company.
The design and construction of the ice arena began in December 2023 and was funded with GEL 29.2 million from the state budget.
In February, Georgia is to host the 2025 European Winter Youth Festival in Bakuriani, Tbilisi, and Batumi. For the Youth Festival, the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure has also completed construction of a biathlon arena and a 3.5 km cross-country ski track in Bakuriani.
