Rehabilitation of water supply system is ongoing in Abasha
The Municipal Development Fund of Georgia of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia together with the United Water Supply Company of Georgia is implementing a large scale infrastructural project in Abasha. Today, the First Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Giorgi Amashukeli was visiting works ongoing on the project site, he was accompanied by the Director of the United Water Supply Company of Georgia, Vladimer Lazarishvili, Authorized Representative of the State in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Region, Levan Shonia and local authorities.
The project envisages complete rehabilitation of the 100 km water supply network in Abasha, which inter alia includes the following works: arrangement of water supply branching, fire hydrants, replacement of the existing depreciated pipes with polyethylene ones. Upon completion of above-mentioned works, the town will be supplied with clean and quality potable water on 24-hour basis. Project cost amounts to GEL 5.700.000. Majority of persons employed at the project site are locals.
Network and head works of Abasha water supply system were constructed in 60-80-ies of the past century. Due to the age of network, distribution wells and water pipes, system breakdowns occur rather frequently. The United Water Supply Company of Georgia of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, backed by the EIB is planning to implement similar works in 28 more towns throughout the country.
